Canberra records the highest number of hatted restaurants per capita of any Australian city, with Lunetta on Red Hill now the ACT’s latest addition alongside Such and Such, Rebel Rebel, Onzieme and Mu.
The concentration of award-winning venues matters in 2026 because it draws both locals and visitors who combine fine dining with day trips to the surrounding wine region and regular visits to suburban markets for fresh produce.
Bar Rochford has been named the country’s top bar by Gourmet Traveller, pairing its drinks list with dishes that complement the city’s wine culture. Ethnic options add further range, with Rogane Chimac in Dickson serving Korean fried chicken, Pho Phu Quoc offering Vietnamese noodle soups, Bamiyan in Braddon providing Afghan dishes and Azima specialising in Lebanese mezze.
Fyshwick Markets operate Thursday through Sunday, the Capital Region Farmers Market runs Saturdays at EPIC and the Capital Food Market in Belconnen trades Wednesday through Sunday. Tiger Lane and Verity Lane Market supply casual choices including Singapore noodles and steamed buns from multiple vendors without the atmosphere of a shopping centre.
More than 40 wineries lie within a 35-minute drive of the CBD, supplying the restaurants and bars that have earned the city its per-capita hat count. These verified opening days and distances allow residents to plan produce runs and winery visits without guesswork.
Check the published schedules for Fyshwick Markets, EPIC and Belconnen before heading out, and book tables at the hatted venues several days ahead to secure a seat during peak periods.
