Canberra has the highest number of hatted restaurants per capita of any city in Australia. Venues such as Such and Such, which took the best ACT/NSW restaurant title in 2023, and Lunetta, the most recent addition noted for its sunset views, anchor that standing.
The concentration of recognised kitchens supports a spread of dining options that range from quick counter meals to seated wine-paired dinners. Local listings track the venues through annual awards and visitor guides updated each year.
Tiger Lane operates as a neon-lit precinct that houses ten separate venues. Verity Lane Market provides another central gathering point for multiple operators. Bar Rochford received the title of Australia’s top bar from Gourmet Traveller. Separate counters specialise in defined dishes: Rogane Chimac serves Korean plates, Pho Phu Quoc focuses on Vietnamese noodle soups, Sandoochie prepares banh mi rolls, and Under Bakery produces Scandi-style buns. Gang Gang and Dockside Cafe rank among the preferred brunch locations.
Two Italian-leaning restaurants draw on the nearby wine region. Compa runs as an Italian-inspired steakhouse under Matt Moran. Carlotta operates as an Italian eatery led by Chris Lucas. Both sit within reach of more than 40 wineries located inside a 35-minute drive of the city centre.
Fyshwick Markets open Thursday through Sunday. Capital Region Farmers Markets run on Saturdays at EPIC. Harris Farm Markets trade at Majura Park. These sites supply the restaurants and home cooks with regional fruit, vegetables and meat.
Canberra Times and HerCanberra listings compile the current addresses and opening details for the full set of venues and markets. The same directories note the 2023 award for Such and Such and the bar accolade for Bar Rochford. Visitors can check the published market days before planning a trip to source ingredients or sample the listed counters.
