Canberra records the highest number of hatted restaurants per capita of any Australian city, according to Visit Canberra data. Venues such as Such and Such, Rebel Rebel, Onzieme, Mu, Brunello, Raku and Inka anchor the list.
The concentration of these restaurants gives the city a distinct dining profile at a time when new venues continue to open. Chefs Matt Moran and Chris Lucas added Compa and Carlotta, both Italian-inspired, to the 2026 scene.
Verity Lane Market and Tiger Lane together house ten neon-lit venues that serve Singapore noodles and steamed buns among other options. Bar Rochford, located in the city, was named Australia’s top bar by Gourmet Traveller.
More than 40 wineries sit within 35 minutes of the city centre, supplying many of the restaurants with local bottles. The proximity allows same-day sourcing for several kitchens.
Fyshwick Markets operate Thursday through Sunday, while the Capital Region Farmers Markets run at EPIC on Saturdays. Harris Farm Markets at Majura Park provides another steady source of regional produce.
These outlets support the broader dining circuit by supplying ingredients to both fine-dining kitchens and casual counters. Diners can match a market visit with an evening reservation at one of the hatted addresses to sample the same produce in finished dishes.
