Gordon, Canberra: Tuggeranong Southern Fringe and the Cotter Recreation Corridor

Gordon is a Tuggeranong district suburb at the southern end of the Tuggeranong Valley that backs directly onto the Brindabella National Park and Namadgi National Park borders, giving residents some of the most direct access to wilderness bushwalking, camping and outdoor recreation of any ACT suburb. The Cotter Reservoir and Bendora Reservoir areas, key water supply and recreation areas in the ACT's western ranges, are accessible from Gordon via a relatively short drive through the Cotter Road corridor. Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, one of the ACT's premier wildlife reserves and a popular day trip destination with platypus-viewing walks, yabby ponds and kangaroo and emu populations, is approximately 25 minutes drive from Gordon. The suburb has a 1980s-1990s development character with standard Tuggeranong residential housing, well-maintained local parks and an active community association. Gordon shops on Cowlishaw Street provide local convenience retail. Tuggeranong Town Centre and the Hyperdome shopping centre are 5-10 minutes drive to the north. The suburb is popular with outdoor enthusiasts and families who want southside Canberra living with the shortest practical drive to wilderness areas.
