Macgregor, Canberra: Belconnen Outer Suburb and the Pinnacle Nature Reserve
Macgregor is a Belconnen district suburb at the outer northwest fringe of Canberra that is notable for its direct border with the Macgregor Nature Reserve and the Pinnacle Nature Reserve, which together form one of the ACT's most significant accessible wilderness areas for walking, trail running and nature appreciation. The Pinnacle in the Macgregor Nature Reserve rises to 796 metres above sea level and offers outstanding 360-degree views across the ACT and into NSW from its rocky summit, reachable via a well-maintained trail from the suburb's western edge in approximately 45-60 minutes of walking. The suburb's residential character is 1980s-1990s housing typical of outer Belconnen, with a community oriented around local schools and green space. The Macgregor shops on Drake Brockman Drive provide local convenience retail. Belconnen Town Centre is 10-15 minutes drive to the southeast. The suburb is strongly favoured by outdoor enthusiasts, trail runners and mountain bikers who value the ability to step from their front door into significant nature reserve terrain. The Macgregor-Goorooyarroo-Holt nature reserve complex provides extensive off-road trail networks at the outer Belconnen rim.
