Gungahlin, Canberra: Canberra's Fastest-Growing District Explained

Gungahlin is Canberra's newest and fastest-growing district, with a population that has grown from near-zero in the 1990s to over 80,000 residents and is still expanding with new suburbs including Throsby, Taylor and Jacka. The Gungahlin Town Centre on Hibberson Street serves as the commercial hub, with Marketplace Gungahlin and a range of restaurants, cafes, supermarkets and services. The light rail line (Capital Metro) connects Gungahlin Town Centre directly to the Civic CBD in approximately 18 minutes, making it the best-connected outer district in the capital. Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary north of the district boundary is a significant conservation reserve protecting eastern bettong, eastern quoll and superb parrot populations in a grassland and open woodland landscape. The Yerrabi Pond in the Ngunnawal suburb has a walking circuit and is a popular early morning exercise location.
