Bruce, Canberra: GIO Stadium, the Australian Institute of Sport and Sport Precinct Living

Bruce is a northside suburb in the Belconnen district that is the home of two of Canberra's most significant sporting assets: GIO Stadium on Battye Street, the primary outdoor events and rugby venue for the ACT and home of the Brumbies; and the Australian Institute of Sport on Leverrier Crescent, Australia's national elite athlete training facility. GIO Stadium is the ACT's largest events venue with capacity for major concerts, festivals and sporting codes, and is well known as the destination for Brumbies Super Rugby home matches. The Australian Institute of Sport runs public tours through its facilities and has a museum dedicated to Australian sporting history and achievement, open to visitors. Bruce also houses the Canberra Stadium running and athletics track within the sports precinct. The University of Canberra and Calvary Hospital are both within a short drive of the Bruce sports precinct. The suburb has good bus connections to Belconnen Town Centre and Civic via the Belconnen Way corridor. Residential character is predominantly postwar housing and more recent medium-density development suited to students and working professionals.
