Braddon, Canberra: Restaurants, Cafes and What to Know About the Suburb
Braddon is Canberra's most energetic inner-city suburb and the heart of the capital's food, bar and creative scene. Located immediately north of the Civic CBD, Braddon has transformed over the past 15 years from a light-industrial and commercial precinct to one of Australia's strongest small-suburb hospitality strips. Lonsdale Street is the main spine, with a run of specialty coffee roasters, Japanese ramen shops, French bistros, pizza restaurants and craft cocktail bars in converted former car showrooms and light industrial buildings. Several of Australia's best-known specialty coffee roasters are based in Braddon — Assembly Coffee, Ona Coffee and Barrio Collective Coffee all have their roasteries or flagship cafes in the precinct. The suburb's mix of residential apartment buildings (Dickson Corridors) and commercial tenancies gives it a genuine all-day population that supports a strong cafe and restaurant trade across the week, not just on weekends.
