Belconnen, Canberra: Shops, Eats and What to Know About the North-West District
Belconnen is Canberra's largest district by population and the commercial centre of the capital's north-western suburbs. The Westfield Belconnen shopping centre on Benjamin Way is one of the ACT's largest retail centres, with a full department store, major retailers and a food court. The Belconnen Town Centre surrounding the shopping centre has government offices, commercial tenancies and a farmers market. Lake Ginninderra, the large man-made lake at the heart of the Belconnen district, provides an outstanding recreational resource for walking, cycling, rowing and community events; the foreshore has a walking circuit of approximately 7 kilometres that is one of Canberra's most popular free outdoor exercise routes. The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) is located in the Bruce area of Belconnen and is the country's elite training centre, offering public sporting facility access. The University of Canberra campus at Bruce is a significant anchor for the district. The Belconnen Fresh Food Markets on Benjamin Way operate Wednesday to Sunday with fresh produce and specialty food.
